Happy spring to you and yours. I don’t know about you, but it’s felt like an especially long winter, and I’m positively pleased it’s officially over. But just because the days are getting longer and the sunshine is sticking around more, there are still those bitter mornings and rainy stretches we have to wade through.
Rather than letting the weather (or any other environmental and lifestyle factors) impact your mood, reach for something you haven’t worn in 4-6 months and style it for the transitional season we’re in. The novelty of newness and revisiting a cherished seasonally-dormant garment itself can act as your pick-me-up.
“A sense of novelty activates the dopamine system directly. As a result, it enhances mood, positive outlook, motivation, and goal setting,” according to a recent article by Professor Alane K. Daugherty, Ph.D., in Psychology Today. Wearing your same-old familiar seasonal clothing, shoes, and accessories on repeat over the past four months (or longer) may be contributing to a monotonous mood.
Don’t let your mood dictate what you reach for each time you go to get dressed. Flip the script. Take a few extra moments of intentionality when selecting your next outfit. Open a drawer and pull something out from the bottom or grab a garment that’s been lingering in the back of your closet. Pair two items together that you’ve never done before.
Even if your clothing rotation is working for you, experiment and introduce an alternative item to your dressing repertoire and see how it makes you feel. Change it up. Change isn’t all that bad. If it doesn’t work out, the good news is that you can change your outfit the next time you get dressed.
Style to the Max
Inject some novelty into your transitional outfits this month. This could be bright pungent pops of contrasting colors, maximalist layered prints, or ethereal spreads of delicate blooms and vines printed softly on gossamer fabrics. Or why not incorporate this season’s standout color (think pink!) - Valentino designed an entire collection in this hue, after all.
Here are a few ensembles that will inspire joie de vivre in your daily routine.

You Need a Fabric Shaver
Keep your knitwear and precious garments in shipshape by shaving away fuzz fields and lint mounds that accumulate over time. This handy tool works on cashmere, wool, and merino sweaters, cotton jackets and pants, tailored suiting pieces, and textiles that have accumulated pilling in high-friction areas; underarms, sleeves, backs, inseams, and more. It keeps everything looking new!
I love this tool so much that I own both the Conair and Steamery shavers. Different price points, but both are worthy tools in my toolkit. Let’s just say I do a lot of fabric shaving, but most importantly, I’m testing products that aim to be the best resource for you and your styling kit. A fabric shaver is a must.
