Saturday Styles: Favorite Booties
Top ten go-to womenswear styles to wear for all your fall/winter occasions.
Hi there! Welcome to Saturday Styles, your weekly guide to practical, relevant, and sleek product recommendations. Here are my top picks this week based on what I’ve been loving for my clients, my closet, and everyday upgrades.
*It’s the height of bootie season, and all of my go-to’s have been in rotation from everyday transitional winter wear with jeans to dressy booties with my fave black pants and the styles I wear with black tights and midi dresses. I own almost all of these, and I have recommended every single one of them many times over to my clients, which they love. As usual, styling and sizing comments are below each bootie. Be on the lookout, as some of these styles are selling fast.
WATERPROOF STAPLES
When I say I live in these, that is not an understatement. They are waterproof suede, the stretch gator (aka, the part that goes around the ankle/shaft) stays intact, they’re very easy to pull on/off (not too stiff), and have good stability with the lug sole. True to size. Need I say more? Blondo Hallie Waterproof Bootie, $112.46.
CITY CHELSEA
The elevated version of the booties above. These luxe lug soles are for when I want to dress a little nicer, even in a denim look. The lug sole is slightly taller yet sturdy. The suede is also weather-proof. You put them on, and they just feel cool. Consider half sizing up. Margaux The West Chelsea Bootie, $415.
ALL-WEATHER
This is the winter version of Birkenstock Arizona’s. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, then you probably already own a version of these from Blundstone. Constructed beautifully for wide-terrain use. My Colorado clients, in particular, love these for every day. They’re great when you are running errands, going to yoga and need to slip on/off, or heading to a friends for a cozy hang. Pull on a yummy pair of socks with this bootie. True to size. Blundstone #585 Classic Women’s Chelsea Boots, $199.95.
COMBAT CHIC
I was gifted these earlier this season and, admittedly, was a little skeptical at first. Not sure why, but maybe it's because we all, at times, fall into our trusted brands. I’ve recommended Vivaia to many clients in the past two years, and they’re always winners. This was a good reminder to check yourself when you fall into the same brand patterns, which is why I like to share a variety with you all (hence, this email). Needless to say, I wear these frequently with slightly cropped jeans and cords. I do love a good military-inspired look. Vivaia Round-Toe Lug Sole Lace-Up Ankle Boots (Florence), $159, now $97.
ELEVATED EVERYDAY
This was one of the top-purchased shoes in my client’s closets this season. Why? Because they are dressy and live in an in-between zone that oozes maximal wear. I’ve styled them with barrel jeans and cashmere sweaters, with dress pants and silk blouses, and with leather leggings and shearling vests. The list goes on. That chocolate brown is chef’s kiss, too. JC typically runs a half-size small, but this bootie has proven to be true to size. Jimmy Choo Noor Suede Pearly-Button Ankle Booties, $1,195.
FASHIONABLY MOD
These booties are definitely a statement. The soles are about 1.5” platform, and the zipper detailing rounds out this cool-girl shoe. When I wear mine, I feel as though I’m in The Matrix, sort of, in a good way. Like Trinity kicking a**. The Row Zipped Boot I, $1,490.
MON-SUN STATEMENT
LOVE a light, suede, wintery moment. Wear these with an all white/cream outfit or style with essentially anything in your closet. Seriously. With jeans and a sweater, midi dress or skirt. Tapered trousers and a blazer. The shorter block heel gives you just enough lift with stability. They’re sure to elicit a compliment. Take your standard size. Thursday Boot Co. Luna Bootie, $180.
DATE NIGHT DARLINGS
The color of the season, and one that’s not overtly trendy. Burgundy, or more specifically, “oxblood,” is a neutral in closets. If you want to break up an all-black look or just add a pop of color, this is a doable way to accomplish that. If you want something other than an elevated black winter shoe that can go from to day to dinner, this is your pair. The heel height is 2.8” — that sweet spot for the new 4” that you can actually walk in. True to size. Inez Paz 70, $358.
THE ONES THAT LOOK LIKE SOCKS
I’ve owned an iteration of this bootie for many years. I reach for them on the regular as the knit upper and shaft slide over luxe socks and tights seamlessly. In other words, they stretch and shape to your foot/ankle/lower calf with comfort. I wear the s**t out of them: when I’m going on date nights or have work meetings that I need to dress up for, and they pack really well. This version is more of a kitten heel at 2”, which again gives you that day-to-dinner option. True to size. Steve Madden Aryia Bootie, $90, now $79.99.
SPARKLE + SHINE
A longtime friend and partner, Sarah Flint knows how to make shoes for women who want both comfort and craft. These dress booties live up to their name. I love this sparkle version in particular because it can take you to a friend’s birthday party in their home or on a girls’ trip. The metallic has a blend of both gold and silver tones, so they reflect within a broad sparkle spectrum while you wear them. Always a conversational shoe. Consider half size up. Sarah Flint Perfect Dress Bootie 60, $595.
