Hi there! Welcome to Saturday Styles, your weekly guide to practical, relevant, and sleek product recommendations. Here are my top picks this week based on what I’ve been loving for my clients and my closet.
SHOE WASHING BAG
Hands down the best Amazon purchase I’ve made in a while. This set of micro-fiber/mesh bags is ideal for washing athletic sneakers, cotton upper sneakers, knit flats, and a lot of kids’ everyday shoes. I recently went hiking in Wyoming, which led to my white Brooks running shoes being covered in dirt and dust. I considered getting a new pair of shoes but decided to try these bags (a fraction of the price of new tennies).
After a test wash on “delicate” with Tide Free & Gentle, they were about halfway clean — I was cautious at first to avoid potentially messing up the rubber soles. I decided I’d wash them on “normal” to try to clean them even more. That did the trick - they’re brighter now than when I left for my trip, and the laces are bright white. Did the same with Mark’s sneakers, too, which means the bags fit the full range of shoe sizes.
These bags extend the life of most athletic and knit/mesh shoes, great for kids shoes, too. Wouldn’t put your leather or suede in them, FYI. But they really get the job done and make your sneakers look like new. Plus, these bags will soften the blow of your sneakers inside your washing machine. MAGIC ERASER
I don’t want to know what these are made of, but they stand up to the sorcery in their name. For any leather soles, these sponges can rub off scuffs, splashed coffee, and most grass/dirt/mud. Add a little bit of water and squeeze out, then gently rub the areas. I use these all the time on my white sneakers, also on my white walls… they’re a constant in my care contents tool kit for everyone. Mr. Clean, Magic Eraser 10-Pack $12.77.
